Abstract: The populations of this research were all the eighth grade students at SMPN 1 Tegaldlimo in the 2013/2014 academic year. To get the research samples, the homogeneity test was done. It was to know the homogeneity of the population. The scores of homogeneity test were analyzed by using ANOVA in SPSS 18 program. Considering the result, the two research samples were chosen randomly by lottery. They were class VIII A as the experimental group and class VIII G as the control group. The primary data were gained from the students’ reading comprehension test in the form of posttest after they had receivced diffirent treatment. The experimental group received TGT technique while the control group received no treatment. They were taught by using Question and Answer technique. The scores were analyzed by using independent samples t-test using SPSS 18 program. Meanwhile, the supporting data were collected from interview and documentation. The result of independent sample t-test showed that the significant value was 0.042 which was lower than significant level 0.05. It means that null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and (Ha) was accepted. In the other word, the research result proved that there was a significant effect of using Teams-Games-Tournament technique on the eighth grades students’ reading comprehension achievement at SMPN 1 Tegaldlimo in the 2013/2014 academic year.
