Abstract: | English is used by a large number of people in all parts of the world. It has ong been a compulsory subject at the junior high school up to the university level in ndonesia. At present, English is even taught at the elementary school as a local content curriculum. However, many students still think that English is difficult to earn and this is shown by the mistakes they may have when doing English test. The difficulties in learning English are affected by some factors, that are the internal and he external factors. The internal factors come from the students themselves such as motivation, nterest, attitude, and intelligence. While the external factors come from outside the students. Students might be interested in learning if the situation and condition of the environment are conducive to learning. The situation and condition in the classroom are made relaxing and enjoyable by having the classroom well decorated with music and the chairs are well arranged. Sie Hua (2002) notes that “to develop learners’ full potential intellectually and emotionally with the ability to think critically learners need to be exposed to positive and constructive suggestions in non threatening environment.” The other external factors are learning material and the teacher abilities in handling the English teaching learning program. |
