Abstract: Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) in Indonesia is a public health problem because the impact is huge on the viability and the quality of human resources. One cause of IDD is a goitrogenic substance (cyanide) that can block the uptake of iodine by the thyroid gland so that the concentration of iodine in the thyroid is low. Jember is one of the regencies in Indonesia which are classified as goiter endemic area (23.57%). This study purpose is analyze the differences of urinary thiocyanate levels based on food consumption patterns of goitrogenic substance (cyanide) sources in elemantary school student. This research was an analytical observational study by cross sectional approach. The samples of this study were 30 students (4 viii th , 5 grades) from Kertosari Elementary School 03 and Tegalrejo Elementary School 01 choosen by simple random sampling. The dependent variabel of this study was urinary thiocyanate levels and the independent variables was food consumption pattern of goitrogenic substance (cyanide) sources. The dependent variabel was measured by spectrofotometri method. The independent variables was collected by using questionnaire. The difference of urinary thiocyanate levels based on food consumption patterns of goitrogenic substance (cyanide) sources was tested by using the Kruskal Wallis test (p=0,05). This study’s result indicated that there was not significant difference (p<0,05) in urinary thiocyanate levels based on food consumption patterns of goitrogenic substance (cyanide) sources. The urinary thiocyanate levels of respondents were in the normal range although their food consumption patterns of goitrogenic substance (cyanide) sources were in category often, seldom or never consumed.
