Habit is a part of human behavior. Examples of habits are the routine activities such as washing, walking, dressing, etc. The bad habit deals with the habit that is unacceptable or incorrect especially according to social values. It may be unpleasant or even harmful for the one who does it. Besides, the habit may also give bad influences toward other people’s life. This thesis analyzes the effects of Vivian Nichols' bad habits toward Sir Alec Nichols’ life as her husband in Bloodline. It is the novel created by an American writer, Sidney Sheldon. The bad habits of Vivian Nichols and how they affect her husband’s life are the problems that will be discussed in this thesis. Further, the discussion is focused only on the effects of Vivian's bad habits toward Sir Alec Nichols’ life. Whereas, the approach used in writing this thesis is psycological approach. Moreover, the method of analysis in this thesis is inductive method that goes from the particular idea to the general one. Vivian is a blond, young and beautiful woman. She lives in poverty all her life. She marries Sir Alec Nichols who is a rich nobleman. He loves her very much. On the other hand, Vivian marries Alec only for his money. They begin their new life and one day Vivian's bad habits appear. Vivian's bad habits are shopping, gambling and making affairs. Further, all of the bad habits are the basic influence that affect Sir Alec’s life. Alec has to pay the huge debt of Vivian. Besides, the bad habits also grow Sir Alec Nichols’ disappoinment and anger to his wife. These feelings make him become a cold-blooded murderer who is responsible for a series of women murders and the attempts toward Elizabeth Roffe’s assassination. Still Alec thinks that he does all the terrible things for his wife, Vivian. As the expression of Alec’s love to his wife, he does anything to fulfill Vivian's needs including to be a criminal. It is clear that love may change someone’s life because someone who is in love will do anything for the one he loves – it does not matter if it is right or wrong – whatever it takes.en_US
