Background: Earthquakes are a natural disaster that often occurs in Indonesia. Jember Regency is quite often hit by earthquakes because it is located at the confluence of the Indo-Australian plate. The large number of fatalities due to the earthquake was caused by a lack of knowledge about disaster preparedness. Islamic boarding schools which are not only places for learning, but also as places of daily living are important for disaster preparedness education in order to minimize commotion if an earthquake occurs at any time. Therefore, there is a need for optimization efforts through health education, one of which is the jigsaw method in providing education. Aim: To determine the effect of learning using the jigsaw method on students knowledge about earthquake preparedness at Syafi'urrahman Islamic boarding schools in Jember. Methods: This research uses a quasi-experimental design with purposive sampling techniques. We recruited 144 respondents who were divided into two, namely 72 intervention groups and 72 control groups. The intervention group was given learning using the jigsaw method, while the control group had the BMKG and BNPB e-book links distributed. Data were collected using an earthquake preparedness knowledge questionnaire. Research data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: The research showed that there was a difference in knowledge before and after the intervention was given in the intervention group with a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05) and the control group with a p-value of 0.021 (<0.05). The results of the posttest scores for the intervention and control groups showed that there was a difference with a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). Conclusion: Learning using the jigsaw method is more effective in increasing knowledge of earthquake preparedness.en_US
