Abstract: English oral communication is a necessity for students including santri who study at Islamic Boarding School for this day and the future such as for English conversation and presentation, speech contest or employment demands in the future, but some santri have hindrances in expressing their idea in English oral communication. Because of the problem they are assisted with various speaking programs which are supported as extracurricular tasks, one of them being the English Day Program. The English Day Program is a program to familiarize santri in using English language, in order to help them better in using English in daily life, especially in speaking ability. Based on researchers' observation, even though English Day has been provided as a means of developing speaking ability, there are some members who experience hindrances in practicing speaking English. Therefore, this research intends to investigate the hindrances that were experienced by santri in participating in the English Day Program. The participants were selected in two criteria namely: their problem and duration of joining the program. The data was collected by using semi-structured interviews. The data analysis was done by using Thematic Analysis. The researcher did some steps to analyze the data: firstly, After recording the conversation, the researcher transcribed the responses of the participants. Secondly, the researcher used theme analysis to assess the data. Thirdly, After examining the data, the researcher discovered the findings and described them in a written report. The last, the researchers re-observed the findings and concluded the study. The result of this study showed that the maximum common hindrances were grammatical error, anxiety, lack of facilities, and hectic schedule. The minimum hindrances were lack of pronunciation and crowded learning environment. The minimum hindrances were shyness, lack of motivation, and lack of vocabulary. Finally, the researcher hopes the result of this research will be more useful for English Day Program especially for improving the English Day Program quality and refining the students ability in speaking English..
