dc.description.abstract | Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that places a significant emotional and cognitive burden on patients, making them vulnerable to various psychological problems. Individuals with Diabetes Mellitus generally experience emotional challenges such as anxiety, stress, fear, and guilt. Self-empowerment plays an important role in enabling patients to exercise control over their condition and improve their emotional intelligence. This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-empowerment and emotional intelligence in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients at RSD dr. Soebandi Jember. This research used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach and involved 112 participants selected through consecutive sampling. The Diabetes Empowerment Scale Long Form (DES-LF) instrument and the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire Short Form (TEIQUE-SF) were used to assess self-empowerment and emotional intelligence, respectively. Data analysis was carried out using Pearson correlation with a significant level of 0.01. The results showed that the mean value of self-empowerment was 52.96 (SD=±2.8), while the average value of emotional intelligence was 152.53 (SD=±20.8). A strong positive relationship between self-empowerment and emotional intelligence was found (p-value = 0.000, was r = 0.999). Higher levels of self-empowerment were associated with increased emotional intelligence in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. These findings underline the importance of improving emotional intelligence. | en_US |
