Abstract: This research aimed to investigate the factors of students’ speaking anxiety and coping strategies. The researcher used a case study due to the need to reveal in depth the case that addressed the speaking anxiety factors and strategies used by the students for their speaking anxiety and provided an understanding of the speaking anxiety factors and the coping strategies used by the students for their speaking anxiety. The researcher selected three 18-year-old female students in class XI IPA 2 who had high levels of speaking anxiety. The researcher used semi structured interviews as the data collection method. Then, the collected data were analyzed using the thematic analysis by Terry et al. (2017), which consists of six phases: familiarization with the data, generating codes, searching for themes, reviewing themes, defining and naming themes, and producing the report. Many students experienced speaking anxiety. Therefore, students’ speaking anxiety should be important issues that influence the area of language learning. However, there are still few studies that are focused on what factors to speaking anxiety and the coping strategies among students. This current study investigated the factors of speaking anxiety experienced by students, especially among Indonesian EFL students.
