Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the speaking strategies used by the teacher during an English lesson. Brown (2019:8) said, "Speaking is the skill that students will be assessed most in real life situations". The strategies used in teaching speaking skills are undeniably one of the factors that influence teaching and learning outcomes. Effective teaching strategies are essential as they help students improve their English speaking skills. The researcher gathered the data by doing three observations and one interview with the teacher and two students. According to the previous studies, they only put their eyes on observation and interview as the instrument and the educational stage is in elementary school, junior high school or secondary level and undergraduate students. Therefore, in this research the researcher focus on describing the teacher’s strategies in teaching speaking and the reasons teacher applies the strategies.
