Numeracy skills are needed in all aspects of life. Numeracy can be defined as the ability to apply number concepts and arithmatic operation skills in everyday life. Numeracy is needed by junior high school students to prepare themselves for further education which can be measured by the AKM test. The aim of this research is to describe students' numeracy abilities in solving AKM questions in the personal context of the subject of social arithmatic. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The research location is MTsN 1 Jember with the research subjects being three students, one for each indicator. Data was obtained through a test method using a numeracy ability test in the form of AKM and semistructured interviews. Data were analyzed based on numeracy literacy indicators; data triangulation was carried out; present data, and draw conclusions. The research results showed that students with high, medium and low numeracy abilities had similarities, namely being able to write down the information contained in the questions. Students with high and moderate numeracy abilities can conclude calculation results, but students with moderate numeracy abilities are not correct in concluding. Students with high numeracy skills can use various kinds of numbers and symbols and analyze information which is then used to make decisions. Students with moderate numeracy abilities tend to write the information they know in the problem without converting it into mathematical form. Students with moderate numeracy abilities are also not able to solve problems correctly, so the conclusions drawn are incorrect. Students with low numeracy skills are inaccurate in calculating and not careful in working on questions, so they cannot make conclusions.en_US
