Abstract: | Complications of T2DM can not only affect the patient’s physical condition, but also his psychological condition. One of the psychological problems that often occurs in patients with T2DM is anxiety disorders. Family involvement in patient care can be an optimal strategy for managing the psychological well-being of patients with T2DM. Family Caregiver Empowerment Model (FCEM) is a nursing intervention that focuses on empowering family fundamental values through the process of education, counseling and monitoring in improving self-management of T2DM. This study aims to determine the effect FCEM intervention on anxiety disorders in patients with T2DM in the working area of Banjarsengon Health Center, Jember. This study used a randomized controlled group pre-test and post-test design, using a cluster sampling technique. The sample of this study was 85 respondents, which were divided into the intervention group (41 respondents) and the control group (44 respondents). Data collection was carried out using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7 (GAD-7) questionnaire. Univariate analysis on characteristics of respondents including age, gender, education, occupation, marital status, and duration of T2DM. Bivariate analysis was analyzed using the Willcoxon signed rank test and the Mann-Whitney u test. The results of this study indicated that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the intervention group (P = 0.000) and there was a significant difference in the level of anxiety disorders in T2DM patients between the control and intervention groups (P = 0.000). in conclusion, FCEM interventions can reduce the level of anxiety disorders in T2DM patients through improving patient diabetes self-management. |
