dc.description.abstractTemu giring (Curcuma heyneana Valeton & Zijp.) is a family of Zingiberaceae found in tropical areas such as Indonesia. An important part of this plant that has pharmacological properties is the rhizome. Temu giring rhizome contains curcuminoids that exhibit antioxidant activity by several mechanisms namely radical capture, reducing power and lipid peroxidation. Antioxidants become a potential therapy to eliminate free radicals and provide neuroprotective effects in neurons in alzheimer disease by increasing the amount of acetylcholine and inhibiting beta amyloid formation. Research was conducted to determine the antilzheimer activity of temu giring ethanol extract and temu giring ethyl acetate fraction by inhibiting butylcholinesterase (BChE) in vitro. The BChE inhibition activity test was carried out using the Ellman method. BChE inhibitory activity was read with ELISA microplate reader. The data obtained were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and continued with the Mann-Whitney test with a 95% confidence level (p < 0.05). The results showed that ethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction of temu giring had BChE inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 113 ± 3,050 μg/mL and 169 ± 7,230 μg/mL, respectively. Temu giring ethanol extract has better BChE inhibitory activity than temu giring ethyl acetate fraction. Rivastigmin was used as a positive control. Rivastigmin has an IC50 value of 0.300±0.013 μg/mL. The ethanol extract and acetate fraction of temu giring have BChE inhibitory activity and have potential in treating alzheimer disease.en_US
