Abstract: This research examines Ki Hajar Dewantara's ideas on Pendidikan Merdeka (Independence Education) from 1922 to 1942, influenced by socio-cultural conditions in the Dutch East Indies. Pendidikan Merdeka emphasizes nurturing children's physical and spiritual aspects to achieve freedom in life. Ki Hajar Dewantara promoted the Among Method, Trisentra Pendidikan, and Sistem Paguron through his writings and the Taman Siswa school. The study explores the socio-cultural factors, concepts, and implementation of Pendidikan Merdeka. It contributes to understanding Ki Hajar Dewantara's vision and its significance for academic development and historical insights. The research employs historical methods, focusing on Sociology of Knowledge and Hermeneutics. The findings highlight how the socio-cultural context shaped Ki Hajar Dewantara's thoughts on Pendidikan Merdeka. He envisioned a holistic education that nurtures character and freedom, which was evident in Taman Siswa's principles and regulations.
