dc.description.abstractThis paper discussed the problems of grief of diasporic subjects in the novel The Astonishing Color of After. The analysis focuses on the grief that diasporic people suffer from and intergenerational trauma that causes grief represented in the novel as well as the critical position of the author. It employed Stuart Hall theory under qualitative method of analysis. The textual analysis was made to the narratives and dialogues in the novel which constitute grief in their meanings. It was concerned with how grief and its effect happens in the storyline. Meanwhile, contextual analysis was carried out by using related references to support the findings and the researcher’s arguments. The result showed how grief tend to have affected the next generation if being unresolved or untreated, especially with their mental health. in the United States there are many Asian American who is reluctant to get help from professionals such as therapist, psychiatrist, and psychologist.en_US
