Introduction: Short-term memory decline is more common in the elderly. Tahajud prayer is thought to have an influence in improving short-term memory. Tahajud prayer causes brain waves in the alpha wave phase, this phase is associated with relaxation conditions that can improve short-term memory. Objective: To determine the effect of tahajud prayer on short-term memory in the elderly at Karang Werda Sumbersari, Patrang, Kaliwates, Sumberjambe, Silo, and Puger. Method: the type of research used is observational analytic with a cross sectional research design. The total sample that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria was 40 elderly people. This study conducted univariate and bivariate data analysis. The bivariate test used the Kruskal-Wallis test because the data was not normal. Data on tahajud prayer were obtained from questionnaires while elderly short-term memory from the Digit Span Tes. Result: This study shows that elderly men who perform tahajud prayer are 8 people (72.73%) and those who do not perform as many as 3 people (27.27%) while elderly women who perform as many as 23 people (79.31%) and those who do not perform as many as 6 people (20.69%). Based on bivariate analysis using the Kruskal Wallis test, this study showed a significant difference between tahajud prayer on short-term memory of the elderly with a p-value <0.05 both in terms of frequency (p<0.00) and number of rakaat (p<0.001). Post Hoc test showed that the group compared with the frequency of 6-7 times a week had a significant difference and at least 2 rakaat during tahajud showed a significant difference. Conclusion: Tahajud prayer has an influence on the short-term memory of the elderly.en_US
