Setyanto and Warniningsih (2011) conducted water quality checks on color parameters and found that the color level of Gajahwong River was 12.5 - 30 Pt-Co, exceeding the maximum limit of color levels in the Minister of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2023 by 10 TCU. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of reducing color levels in water through downflow filtration methods with reactor variations using silica sand filter media and bagasse charcoal. Preparation of necessary tools and materials, preparation of bagasse charcoal, and installation of filter reactors are included in the research methods. The experiment stages include raw water preparation and testing, filtration process, filtration result water collection and testing, and data analysis. The results showed that the effectiveness of color removal at a level of 16.72 TCU, reactor 4 reached the highest level of 61.08%, and reactor 3 reached the lowest level with an effectiveness of 28.39%. At the raw water color level of 34.28 TCU, reactor 4 showed the highest effectiveness at 57.04%, and the lowest at 26.00% in reactor 3. The Two ways anova test for the effect of filter media thickness on the reduction of color levels shows that the p-value is 2.66-14 <0.05, indicating that the variation of silica sand filter media and bagasse charcoal in the filter reactor has a significant effect on the reduction of color levels and produces better water quality. This research contributes significantly to the optimal water quality for hygiene and sanitation needs.en_US
