Abstract: | Kategorisasi pesantren di Indonesia secara sederhana dibagi menjadi dua bentuk, yaitu pesantren salaf dan pesantren modern. Kyai sebagai pemimpin pesantren, hakikatnya adalah seorang yang diakui oleh masyarakat, karena keahlian keagamaan, kepemimpinan dan kharismatiknya. Pesantren mirip “sebuah dinasti”. Karena itu pola konvensional kepemimpinan di pesantren cenderung membentuk kepemimpinan personal, segala masalah bertumpu pada kyai. Pesantren Darussalam termasuk pesantren yang sudah menggunakan manajemen modern. Kyai sebagai tokoh utama mempunyai peran signifikan dalam membangun manajemen pesantren dan mengembangkan eksistensinya, khususnya sebagai lembaga pendidikan Islam. Namun demikian karena telah berbentuk yayasan, penerapan manajemen modern dalam upaya peningkatan kualitas pelayanan publik tidak hanya menjadi tanggungjawab Kyai sebagai top leader, tetapi juga menjadi tanggungjawab seluruh pengelola yayasan. Penelitian ini menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif. Penentuan informan dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik “snow-ball” (bola salju). Sedangkan pengumpulan datanya menggunakan observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Adapun analisis datanya menggunakan analisis domain, taksonomi dan SWOT. Berdasarkan analisis SWOT dalam upaya peningkatan kualitas pelayanan publik pesantren Darussalam berada pada kondisi stabil, terbukti dengan temuan hasil penelitian faktor kekuatan/strengths yang merupakan faktor intern lebih dominan dibanding faktor kelemahan/weakness dan ditemukannya juga faktor peluang/opportunities juga lebih dominan dalam mendukung upaya-upaya yang dilakukan serta kesiapan menghadapi ancaman/treaths yang mungkin muncul. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa upaya yang dilakukan pengelola, sesuai teori Parasuraman dalam mengukur kualitas pelayanan publik lebih pada dimensi daya tanggap, jaminan, kehandalan dan empati. Sedangkan dimensi bukti fisik tampak lebih fokus diperankan pengasuh utama sekaligus ketua yayasan. Kyai is as leader of the pesantren, is essentially one that is recognized by society, because of religious expertise, leadership and charismatic. Pesantren is like "a dynasty". Therefore the conventional patterns of leadership in schools tend to form personal leadership, the problems of relying on clerics. Pesantren Darussalam includes boarding schools that are already using modern management. Kyai is as the main character has a significant role in building a boarding school management and develops its existence, especially as institutions of Islamic education. However, because it has shaped the foundation, the application of modern management an effort to improve the quality of public services is not only the responsibility of Kyai as a top leader, but also the responsibility of the entire foundation management. This study used descriptive qualitative. Determination of informant was done by using "snow-ball". While the collection of data using observation, interviews and documentation. The analysis of data uses domain, taxonomy and SWOT analysis. Based on the SWOT analysis of efforts to improve the quality of public services at the foundation of Darussalam Islamic boarding at a stable condition, as evidenced by the items of research findings on the dimensions of the measurement of quality of public services according to his theory Parasuraman more entry factor of strength which are also internal factors and the discovery of opportunities factor in supporting the efforts that undertaken. The results showed that the efforts made by functionaries of Pesantren Darussalam in improving the quality of public services according to Parasuraman theory in measuring the quality of public services are more focused to the dimensions of responsiveness, assurance, reliability and empathy. While the dimensions of the physical evidence (tangibles) seem to focus more played the primary caregiver and chairman of the foundation of Pesantren Darussalam.
