Abstract: | Beauty pageant is part of the popular culture that has developed worldwide due to globalization. Regardless of its popularity, the existence of the beauty pageant is inseparable from negative views and sharp criticism. Radical feminism and Marxist groups see the beauty pageant as oppression perpetrated by patriarchy and capitalists. This is due to the objectification and commodification of women's bodies in organizing beauty pageant. Even so, many women from all over the world still participate in beauty pageant such as Miss Universe. This research attempts to examine the reasons for these women participating in the Miss Universe beauty pageant from 2015 to 2022. In addition, this research contains the views of women regarding the criticisms leveled at the beauty pageant. This research is a qualitative type of narrative research because it contains narratives or discourses from the life experiences of one or several people. In the research process, researchers used secondary data derived from literature studies. Then, these data were analyzed using post-feminism theory which functions as a research lens. At the end of the study, results were found which indicated that there were post-feminist ideas in the participation of women on the Miss Universe stage from 2015 to 2022. Therefore, the authors concluded that the emergence and development of post-feminism ideas encouraged women from all over the world to exist on the Miss Universe stage from 2015 to 2022. |
