Abstract: | This study analyses a novel by Christopher Edge entitled Escape Room in 2022. The novel tells about Ami who is an artificial intelligence created by a character namely the Father. Ami is created by the Father to solve the world’s environmental problems. Ami is engaged as the subordinate figure in a hegemony process run and maintained by the Father. Ami needs to learn everything about the world. Thus, there comes the event where Ami refuses the order to save the world and the Father has to create an apparatus called The Escape and incorporate that with Ami’s desire. This research utilizes Gramscian Hegemony to analyze the hegemony process. This research also seeks the author’s critical position on artificial intelligence issues related to its consciousness and purpose. |
