dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to investigate the process of code-switching among teachers when teaching and learning English. A preliminary study revealed that the English teacher at SMPN 1 Silo employed a combination of English and Indonesian language during their teaching sessions. The researchers conducted an observational study in classrooms in order to gain insights into people's behaviors and interactions. The goal was to understand their behavior in schools. The participant chosen for the study was the English teacher at SMPN 1 Silo. The data collection approach involved closely observing and conversing with the English teacher, while concurrently recording the information using audio and video. The information was examined through the utilization of qualitative data analysis, a method recommended by Miles and Hubberman (1994). This approach encompassed three main phases: data reduction, visualization, and the eventual formulation of conclusions. The findings indicate that the teacher changed languages during the meeting, with a maximum of 30 switches. The teacher utilized code-switching as a tool to facilitate students' understanding, meet educational targets, and foster a welcoming classroom atmosphere.en_US
