dc.description.abstract | First-year students during the COVID-19 pandemic in the transition period to become students will confront the differences in academic system and demands in higher education that trigger stress which can cause psychological distress as a negative stress response. The purpose of this study was to analyze the description of psychological distress in first-year students of the Faculty of Nursing, University of Jember during the COVID-19 pandemic. The design of this research is descriptive quantitative. The research subjects were first-year students of the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Jember with a total of 137 respondents using cluster random sampling technique. The research questionnaire used was a Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale 42 (DASS 42) questionnaire with a Cronbach alpha = 0.976. The results showed that the highest level of psychological distress for new students during the COVID-19 pandemic was normal stress with a percentage (43.8%), normal depression with a percentage (59.1%), and moderate anxiety with a percentage (34.3%). Based on the results and conclusions related to psychological distress on first-year students of the Faculty of Nursing, University of Jember during the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers expect first-year nursing faculty students to be able to maintain the level of psychological at a normal level and more trying to improve self-regulation in the process of adaptation to the demands of academics in higher education to avoid the possibility of increasing levels of psychological distress. | en_US |
