| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: End of Life Care (EOLC) is an effort to support terminal patients by
reducing physical, psychological, social, and spiritual suffering. Nurses' attitudes
play a critical role in the success of this care. Aim: This study aims to identify and
compare the attitudes of male and female nurses toward EOLC at inpatient health
centers in the Jember region. Methode: This quantitative study utilized a crosssectional design. The sample consisted of 120 nurses (45 males and 75 females)
selected using a convenience sampling technique. Data were collected using the
Indonesian version of the Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying Scale Form
B (FATCOD-B) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test to
compare attitudes based on gender. Result: The results showed no significant
difference in overall attitudes between male and female nurses toward EOLC (p =
0.705). However, certain questionnaire items revealed significant differences, such
as difficulties in building relationships with terminal patients (p = 0.036) and the
importance of patients expressing their feelings (p = 0.005). Homogeneity in
respondent characteristics, such as education level, work experience, and
experience dealing with terminal patients, influenced these results. Conclusion: In
conclusion, nurses' attitudes toward EOLC are not influenced by gender. This study
emphasizes the importance of formal training and continuous education to improve
nurses' competence in providing EOLC. The findings provide recommendations for
healthcare institutions to focus on developing training programs that enhance
nurses' ability to optimally care for terminal patients. | en_US |
