Abstract
This research is intended to conduct an inventory study of food plants
utilized by the local community in the coastal area around Pantai Watu Ulo. The
aspects covered include the types of plants, methods of utilization, and processing
techniques. This exploratory descriptive research was carried out in February
2023 in two helmets, namely Watu Ulo Helmet and Curah Rejo Helmet. These
two helmets were selected due to their proximity to the coastal area of Pantai
Watu Ulo. The research method employed purposive snowball sampling
techniques, involving four stages: 1.) respondent selection based on specific
criteria, 2.) semi-structured interviews using a specific guide, 3.) documentation
of plants, and 4.) plant inventory recording. The collected data were then analyzed
descriptively using percentages, averages, and Use Value analysis. The research
findings indicate that: 1.) the local community utilizes 31 plant species from 18
families as food plants; 2.) the utilization of food plants includes functions as
staple food (3%), supplementary food (14%), vegetables (9%), fruits (9%),
beverage ingredients (30%), spices (16%), and cooking condiments (19%); 3.) the
majority of food plants belong to the Zingiberaceae family; and 4.) the most
utilized part of the plants is the fruit (35%).
