Investigating Senior High School Students Vocabulary Learning Strategies
Abstract
This study investigated the vocabulary learning
strategies senior high school students used in SMAN
Balung. The aim was 1. to find out what vocabulary
learning strategies senior high school students use, 2. to
find out which vocabulary learning strategies are the
most frequently used by senior high school students, 3. to find out which vocabulary learning strategies are the
least frequently used by senior high school students. Seventy-six senior high school students at SMAN Balung
participated in the study. A vocabulary learning
strategies questionnaire was administered to the
participants. The whole data were analyzed using
Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS)
version 25.0, including descriptive statistics. The
research results are summarized as follows:(1) all of the
students of SMAN Balung use all of the five strategies by
smith (1997) there are determination strategies, social
strategies, memory strategies, cognitive strategies, and
meta-cognitive strategies; (2) the most frequently used
strategies were the determination strategy; (3) the least
frequently used strategies were the memory strategies. The distance between strategies is slightly adrift in the
percentage data because all strategies are applied
mainly by students but with different frequencies.
