“Evaluating Listening Materials in the Government-Endorsed English Textbook for the Tenth Graders”
Abstract
This paper reports the evaluation of ELT textbook for the tenth graders of Senior High School. The objective of this study was to know the types and relevance of the listening materials in the English textbook with the recent curriculum used in Indonesia. The English textbook used is an English textbook published by the Indonesia’s Ministry of Education and Culture. Cunningsworth’s classification of listening types was used to classify the types of listening materials in the textbook. The findings revealed that all types of listening materials based on Cunningsworth’s classification was found in the textbook. The listening that belongs to listening passages type was found to be related with the basic competence of 2013 curriculum. However, this type of listening material was found only on four chapters out of 15 chapters of the textbook.
