| dc.description.abstract | Child marriage is common phenomenon in East Java province, particularly in Bondowoso regency. Child marriage has more negative effects for girls. This study aimed to identify determinants of intention on girls to make an early marriage decision in Pakem sub-district, Bondowoso regency. This study based on the Theory of Planned Behavior with cross-sectional design. Data were obtained through questionnaires on September-October 2013. Samples of this study were 155 students who selected with a simple random sampling technique. Participants were selected with the basis of some criteria, such as girls within 13-17 years old, not married yet, native people of Pakem and enrolled in educational institutions that exist in Pakem sub-district. Spearman correlation test applied to determine associations between each variable. Result revealed that knowledge significantly associated with attitude as one of three factors that directly influence the intention (p = 0.003, rs = 0.238). Attitude (p = 0.244), subjective norm (0.098) and perceived behavioral control (p = 0.292) were not significantly associated with the intention, but there is relationship between beliefs as constituent of three variables to the intention, they are "lost their teenage years" (p = 0.001, rs = 0.268), "friends" (p = 0.001, rs = 0.259) and "pregnant before marriage" (p = 0.025, rs = 0.180). Based on the findings, in order to reduce child marriage, consideration should be given on girls’ knowledge about child marriage, so they can support each other to increase beliefs that associated with intention, and to avoid child marriage. | en_US |
