dc.description.abstractThis study tries to explain the lexical cohesion analysis on Oscar Wilde’s Short Story The Nightingale and the Rose. It concerns with lexical cohesive devices that are found in the short story and finds out whether the lexical cohesive devices can make the text coherent and unified. This thesis uses library research by reading some books in the library to find out concepts that are relevant to the theoritical review of the thesis. The data of this study are collected from a written text. The data are qualitative that are in the form of description documentary (bibliographical) study is applied to this study which describes lexical cohesive devices, such as repetition, synonym, antonym, hyponym, cohyponym, meronym, comeronym, and collocation. Analyzing and discussing the short story The Nightingale and The rose can be concluded that the application of lexical cohesive devices makes the text coherent and unified. The repetition plays an important role in making the text coherent and unified because it helps the readers understand the short story The Nightingale and The Rose.en_US
